Jackie Siefring, Women's Track and Field
AKRON, Ohio - Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio), a sophomore on the University of Akron women’s track and field team, was named the Zips’ Student-Athlete of the Week on May 16, presented by The University of Akron.
Siefring was named as the Most Valuable Performer at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday, May 14, after winning the heptathlon and 400-meter hurdles, en route to leading the Zips to a second-place team showing.
Siefring continued her league domination in the multi-events capturing the heptathlon with a seven-event cumulative score of 5,412 to become the first Zip since Mary Varga in 2003 to win the heptathlon. Siefring opened her day winning the long jump with a leap of 19-0.75 (5.81m), before placing third and fourth, respectively, in the 800 meters (2:28.37) and javelin (113-3/34.52m). A day earlier, she won two of the four opening-day events.
She later garnered another victory in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line first in 58.66. Additionally, she ran the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay.
