Antino Jackson, Men's Basketball
AKRON, Ohio - Antino Jackson (Houston, Texas; Cypress Springs HS), a sophomore guard for the men’s basketball team, was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Jackson led the Zips to a 2-0 opening week Mid-American Conference record, defeating Buffalo on the road, 75-71, and Western Michigan at home, 62-53. In addition, Akron extended its winning streak to 10 games while improving its best overall start in the Division I era to a 13-2 record.
Against Buffalo, Jackson recorded a team-high 16 points with seven assists and no turnovers, marking the second straight game without a turnover. He was 5-of-16 from the floor, including a 3-of-10 effort from deep and a 3-of-3 performance from the charity stripe. He also grabbed one offensive rebound and had a steal.
Against Western Michigan, he led the Zips scoring efforts with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 2-of-5 from deep. He added another perfect performance from the free throw line, knocking down all three attempts. Jackson dished out four assists while pulling down a career-high eight rebounds with two steals.
For the week, Jackson averaged 15.5 points (31) on 10-of-27 shooting (.370), including a 5-of-15 effort from deep (.333). He was a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe while averaging 5.5 assists (11), 4.5 rebounds (9), and 1.5 steals (3) per game.
