AKRON, Ohio – Kelsey Wilson (Ferndale, Mich.), a senior middle blocker on the women's volleyball team, was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Wilson led the Zips with 28 kills and 40 points in 14 sets in their 3-1 showing this past week. The senior helped Akron wrap up its own non-conference tournament with a perfect 3-0 record to earn the 2015 Akron Invitational Championship trophy.
Against Navy, Wilson had 10 kills along with two solo blocks and a service ace. She was effective in the middle for Akron, posting only one error to hit .643 in the match.
Wilson continued her offensive expertise for Akron on day two, totaling 15 kills and averaging 2.14 per set over the course of the two matches. The Ferndale, Mich. native also added three assists, three service aces, three digs and two solo blocks on the day. Furthermore, Wilson was named the 2015 Akron Invitational Most Valuable Player.
On the season, she leads the team in points (83.5), service aces (12) and total blocks (23), while ranking second in kills (56) and attack percentage (.357).
Wilson and the Zips return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, traveling to Dayton, Ohio, for the Holiday Inn Invitational starting with a match against Wright State at 7:00 pm.
