CLEVELAND– Senior punter Zach Paul (Broadview Heights, Ohio) has been tabbed the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by the University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Additionally, Paul was named the Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the East Division on Nov. 30.
In the 20-0 shutout of Kent State, Paul punted just three times for 117 yards (averaging 39.0), including a long of 45 yards. Two of those punts landed inside the 20. His final punt in the fourth quarter was downed at the one-yard line to start Kent’s final drive of the game. The shutout was Akron’s first over Kent State in 30 years (24-0 in 1985).
In 12 games, Paul has punted 71 times for 2,922 yards (41.2 average). Twelve of his punts have been longer than 50 yards, while 23 were inside the 20.
