Kwan Cheatham Jr., Men's Basketball
Akron, Ohio – Kwan Cheatham, Jr. (Cincinnati, Ohio), a junior forward on the men's basketball team, was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron, Ohio's Polytechnic University.
Cheatham helped lead the Zips to a pair of Mid-American Conference wins with a career-best shooting performance and strong defensive play last week.
Against Northern Illinois, Cheatham was perfect from the field while leading the Zips to a 76-66 win over the Huskies. He led all scorers with a game- and career-high 18 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field, including an unblemished 4-of-4 showing from beyond the 3-point arc.
Cheatham was also perfect from the charity stripe, draining all four attempts. In addition, he led the Zips on the glass with five rebounds while adding three blocked shots and two assists.
Against Ball State, Cheatham chipped in seven points to Akron’s 73-64 triumph over the Cardinals. He went 3-of-5 from the floor and 1-of-3 from downtown while pulling down three rebounds with two blocks and an assist.
For the week, Cheatham recorded 25 points in 57 minutes of work. He averaged 12.5 points per game on 80-percent shooting (8-of-10), including a 71.4 percent effort from long distance (5-of-7). He was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe while adding 4.0 rebounds (8), 2.5 blocks (5) and 1.5 assists (3) per contest.
