Ariadna Blinova, Women's Tennis
Akron, Ohio – Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia), a sophomore on the women's tennis team, was named the Zips' Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The University of Akron.
Blinova went 2-0 in Mid-American Conference singles action over the weekend for the Zips. Blinova bested Northern Illinois’ top player, Adey Osabuohien, in a hard fought 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) triumph at the No. 1 position. She then partnered with senior Martina Zerbola to defeat the No. 3 duo of Cristina Alvarez and Meghan Montgomerie, 6-1, helping Akron sweep NIU, 7-0.
The Riga, Latvia native captured her eighth straight singles victory on Sunday, defeating Western Michigan’s Melina Lyubomirova 7-5, 7-6 (3) at the No. 1 spot. Blinova continues to lead the team in wins, standing at 17-1 in singles dual matches this season.
