SCOUTING KENT STATE
Kent State comes into action against Akron on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 16-8 on the campaign, including a 8-5 record in the Mid-American Conference, following a 72-69 victory at Buffalo on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The Golden Flashes are led senior F Lindsey Thall, who is averaging 11.5 points per game, while senior G Katie Shumate leads Kent State in rebounding pulling down 6.2 caroms per contest. CRYSTAL CLINIC ORTHOPAEDIC CENTER WAGON WHEEL CHALLENGE
Akron battles Kent State as part of the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge during its game on Saturday, Feb. 18. The 14-sport rivalry series between Akron and Kent State is based on a time-honored competition for an historic wooden wagon wheel trophy awarded originally in 1945 to the winner of the annual Akron-Kent State football game. The Golden Flashes lead the current series this year, 4.0-1.0, through seven events.

IN OUR LAST MEETING (FEB, 1, 2023 - AKRON, OHIO)
In a rivalry showdown that went down to the wire, Kent State escaped with a 57-55 decision past Akron on Feb. 1 at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Zips fought their way back from a 13-point deficit early in the fourth quarter, cutting the margin to two in the game's closing minute before the Flashes prevailed. A 17-8 spurt powered by five points from sophomore G Zakia Rasheed (Avon, Ind.) helped Akron battle its way back into the game.
Sophomore F Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) posted a double-double to lead the Zips, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Senior F Molly Neitzel (Rocky River, Ohio) also recorded a double-double with a 12-point and 11-rebound performance, while junior G Alexis Stewart (Hamilton, Ontario) scored 12 points.
The Zips finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field, while limiting Kent State to a .309 shooting mark. Akron outrebounded the Golden Flashes, 43-30, including 32-21 on the defensive glass.
Hannah Young led Kent with 16 points and Katie Shumate contributed 11 in the win.
AKRON FOR NAKON GAME
For the fifth consecutive season, Akron women's basketball team partnered with the Nakon Foundation to host the 'Akron for Nakon' game, on Feb. 11, as Akron hosted Ball State.
A silent auction was at the game where survivors, and those suffering from breast cancer, were invited as VIPs to the game. T-shirts were be sold with all the proceeds benefiting the Nakon Foundation.
NEITZEL'S CAREER NIGHT PROPELS ZIPS OVER EASTERN MICHIGAN
Akron picked up a key Mid-American Conference win Wednesday evening at James A. Rhodes Arena, holding off visiting Eastern Michigan for a 72-70 triumph.
Molly Neitzel delivered a career-high 22 points to match the total she posted against Bowling Green in 2021 en route to sparking the Zips to a .448 shooting mark on the evening.
Reagan Bass also reached double figures with an 18-point and five-rebound performance, while redshirt junior G Layne Ferrell (Franklin, Ohio) scored 13 to go with seven rebounds. Rounding out the double-figures scorers for Akron with 10 points and six assists was senior G Dominique Camp (Dayton, Ohio).
The Zips converted 14 Eastern Michigan turnovers into 15 points, while committing a season-low nine turnovers of their own. The Eagles shot 41.5 percent from the field, 20.0 percent from three-point range in defeat, allowing the Zips to sweep the season series between the two teams.
Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu topped Eastern Michigan with 26 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 19 points from Lachelle Austin.

Defense has been the key to Akron's success this season as the Zips have held opponents to under 40 percent shooting from the floor in 14 of 24 contests and 60 points or less in nine games.
Akron leads the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage defense (.380) and defensive rebounding (29.4), while ranking second in three point defense (.288) and blocked shots (4.46), third in rebounding (37.9) and fourth in scoring defense (64.2).
Reagan Bass is fifth (7.9) in the MAC in overall rebounding, while Bass is ranked fifth (8.5) in conference-only rebounding.
