Kent State Triumphs Over Akron in Rivalry Showdown

KENT, Ohio – The University of Akron women's basketball team fell behind early in its showdown with rival Kent State and couldn't overcome a strong performance by the Golden Flashes dropping an 87-46 decision on Saturday, Feb. 18.
By virtue of the win, Kent State captured a half point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge to extend the Golden Flashes' advantage to 4.5-1.0.
Senior F Molly Neitzel (Rocky River, Ohio) led the Zips in scoring for the second consecutive contest with a team-high 14-point and seven-rebound performance. Sophomore F Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) added a 11-point and three-assist effort, while Akron garnered solid performances off the bench with six and four points, respectively, from junior G Alexis Stewart (Hamilton, Ontario) and freshman F Aila Miller (Berlin, Ohio).
Kent State shot 75 percent in the opening period and nearly 63 percent (.625) in the first half to race to a 48-30 halftime lead. The Golden Flashes finished the contest connecting on nearly 54 percent (.537) en route to securing the victory.
The Zips concluded the afternoon shooting 31.7 percent from the field
