Softball Falls to Bradley and Belmont at Bruin Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Akron Zips softball team (2-15) dropped its final two games of the Bruin Classic in a 14-5 decision to Bradley, followed by a 13-5 loss to Belmont on Sunday afternoon.

GM 1: Akron 5, Bradley 14

Bradley quickly got off to 5-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the first inning followed by three runs in the second inning.

Akron plated four runs in the third inning when Katelyn Reynolds (Cincinnati, Ohio) singled to left field and drove in a pair of runs. Reynolds then scored on a fielder's choice for the Zips' third run. The Zips tied the game the game at 5-all by a homerun Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio).

Bradley would go on and score three runs each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings en route to the 14-5 victory.

Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) suffered the loss after going 3.2 innings and giving up five runs on six hits.

GM 2: Akron 5, Belmont 13

Belmont plated nine runs in the first inning to take a 9-0 lead. The Zips added a run in the second inning, followed by scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Belmont scored a run in the fifth and a trio of runs in the sixth to secure the 13-5 victory.

Angela Cirone (Louisville, Ohio) led the Zips' bats with two hits and scoring. Sheridon Wilber (Rock Creek, Ohio) suffered the loss after giving up five runs and walking two batters.

Akron is back in action Tuesday, March 15 as the Zips head to Youngstown State for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. followed by 5 p.m.
