SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland enters its season opener this Monday, Nov. 7, on the heels of a 15-15 overall ledger a year ago, including an 11-9 mark in the Horizon League.
Senior G Breanne Beatty headlines Oakland's returnees this season after averaging 9.7 points and a team-best 5.0 rebounds per game a yeat ago. As a team, the Golden Grizzlies registered 62.6 points, 35.8 rebounds, 11.1 assists, 7.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per outing during the 2021-22 campaign.
SERIES HISTORY
Akron and Oakland are squaring off for fifth time in program history with the Golden Grizzlies owning a 3-1 series advantage. In the last meeting between the schools, Akron earned an 85-65 triumph past the Oakland on Nov. 17, 2018 at the Kent State Classic in Kent, Ohio.
IN OUR LAST MEETING (NOV. 17, 2018 - KENT, OHIO)
Megan Sefcik scored a game-high 23 points and nailed five three-pointers en route to a 20-point victory as Akron defeated Oakland, 85-65, in game one of the Kent State Classic.
The Zips' red-hot offense shot 47.6-percent from the floor (30-for-63) and 47.8-percent from beyond the arc (11-of-23). Akron pulled in a game-high 45 rebounds, 34 defensive, and 11 offensive, while also assisting on 14 of their 30 made baskets. Â
Akron used a balanced scoring attack in the contest with nine of the 10 active Zips in the point column. To go along with a balanced scoring effort, four Zips turned in double-digit efforts with Sefcik leading the way, followed by Caitlin Vari and Haliegh Reinoehl scoring 12 points each and Colleen Neitzel adding 10 points.
BASS GARNERS PRESEASON ALL-MAC ACCOLADES
Akron sophomore Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) was tabbed a preseason Second-Team All-Mid-American Conference selection when the league unveiled its 2022-23 Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll on Oct. 27.
On the strength of her breakout rookie campaign a season ago, Bass was tabbed Honorable Mention All-MAC and All-Freshman team honoree after playing in 26 games, including 25 starts, leading the Zips' offensive attack in the paint averaging 12.0 points per game, while ranking third in the league posting 1.19 blocks per game.
Bass scored a career-best 23-points against Eastern Michigan, while bringing down a career-high 13 rebounds at Wake Forest. Bass recorded a career-high four blocks against Western Michigan, while recording two or more blocks in seven games. Bass finished the season with 17 double-figure games.
ZIPS EARN WBCA ACADEMIC SPECIAL MENTION
The 2021-22 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll was announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and the Akron women's basketball team earned special mention nods for having a 3.404 overall team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2021-22 season is the 27th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
The Zips were just one of five Mid-American Conference teams to earn the recognition.

Inside the friendly confines of James A. Rhodes Arena, the Zips have seen a lot of success over the course of the past 18 seasons. When playing on its home court, Akron owns a 117-76 record dating back to the 2004-05 campaign.
In 2021-22, Akron was 8-4 at the JAR, scoring 71.3 points per game, shooting 44 percent (.440) from the floor, averaging 37.8 rebounds per game, with assists on 191 baskets and owning a 1.1 assist/turnover ratio.
