JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On day two of the Jacksonville/North Florida Tournament, the Akron Zips held a 2-0 lead heading into the seventh inning against North Florida but ultimately could not hold on falling to the Osprey 3-2 and Stony Brook, 5-1, on Saturday evening on Jacksonville, Fla.Â
Â
In game one of day two of the Jacksonville/North Florida Tournament, the Zips ended on the wrong end of a 5-1 contest between Akron and Stony Brook.Â
Â
The Seawolves scored five unanswered runs in the first six innings of the ball game. Akron ended Stony Brooks shutout in the top of the seventh inning when junior Lauren Holdsworth (Howell, Mich.) singled to left field and drove home freshman Bailey Drapola (Brookfield, Ohio) who stood on second after a lead-off double.Â
Â
Akron tallied five hits in the contest including a pair of multi-hit performances from Holdsworth and Drapola. Senior Macky Mitchiner (Riverside, Calif.) garnered the Zips fifth hit of the contest with a double in the sixth inning.Â
Â
Senior Adrian Smith (St. Clairsville, Ohio) recorded her sixth complete game in her sixth start of the campaign. In six innings of work, Smith allowed five runs on six hits while striking out three and walking five.Â
Â
Game two slipped out of the hands of the Zips in the bottom of the seventh inning. Holding a 2-0 lead heading into the Osprey's final at-bat, North Florida found its rhythm scoring three runs on four hits for the win.Â
Â
Akron scored the first run of the contest in the top half of the first inning. With runners on first and second and one out, Holdsworth reached safely on a dropped third strike. In an attempt to throw her out at first, the Osprey's catcher muffed the throw to first which allowed Drapola to round third and cross the plate for the run.Â
Â
The freshman duo of Drapola and Stevens continue to have stellar rookie campaigns. Drapola doubled to right center on a 2-2 pitch to lead off the top of the third. In the next at-bat, Stevens doubled into left-center field scoring Drapola from second.Â
Â
Despite the result, sophomore Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.) allowed three runs on seven hits struck out one, forced 10 groundouts, and eight flyouts.Â
