JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Akron went head-to-head with Big Ten Conference opponent Purdue on the final day of the Jacksonville/North Florida Tournament, and after five innings of play, the Zips came up short, 9-0.

The Zips offense recorded three hits in the ball game from three different Akron players. Freshman Tiffany Stevens (Toledo, Ohio) singled in the second followed by a double down the left field line off the bat of senior Sydney Jascoe (Commerce, Mich.) but the pair would stay stranded on the base path.

In the bottom of the second, senior Samantha Malik (Orlando, Fla.) singled through the left side of the infield but again the Zips would leave her stranded.

A trio of Zips made appearances inside the circle for Akron including redshirt freshman Lauren Frigyes (Paris, Ohio), sophomore Lexie Petrof (Ligonier, Pa.), and Adrian Smith (St. Clairsville, Ohio).

The Zips take a short break from tournament play to go head-to-head against Marshall in a twinbill on Tuesday, March 3. Akron heads to Huntington, W. Va. for its first midweek softball action of the 2020 campaign starting at 2 p.m.
