Akron goes pink for Akron For Nakon day! In conjunction with the Zips cancer awareness game, the Akron women's basketball team plays host to Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. inside James A. Rhodes Arena. The Zips and Bobcats are meeting for the second time this season and all the action can be seen live on ESPN3 or heard live on Fox Sports 1350 AM. Â
Scouting the Bobcats
The preseason favorites to win the MAC East, MAC regular-season championship, and MAC Tournament, the Ohio Bobcats have shown they are all business in 2019-20. Through thirteen Mid-American Conference contests, the Ohio Bobcats are atop of the MAC East. The Bobcats are 17-7 overall with a 10-3 record in conference play. Currently, Ohio is riding a four-game winning streak defeating Eastern Michigan (75-65), Kent State (63-57), Miami (84-70), and Toledo (84-70) .Â
Statistically, the Bobcats are arguably one of the best all-around teams in the MAC. Ohio averages the second most points (73.8) in the league and allows the third fewest (65.7), while also posting the largest margin of victory in the conference winning games by eight points on average. The Bobcats are the third best in three-point shooting, lead the conference in turnover margin (7.75), and steals (11.17). Erica Johnson leads the Bobcats in points (18.3), rebounds (7.4), and assists (4.5). Cece Hooks is second on the team in scoring with 17.6 points followed by Amani Burke with 13 points. The Bobcats also have two players rank in the top-5 in the MAC in steals, including Cece Hooks is first (3.9) and Erica Johnson (2.1).
In the NCAA, Ohio ranks in the top-50 in 10 statistical categories, including fewest turnovers (14th), scoring offense (35th), steals (22nd, steals per game (11th), three point field goals attempted (18th), three-point field goals made (21st), three-point field goals per game (14th), turnover margin (6th), turnovers forced (27th), and turnovers per game (20th). Individually, Hooks ranks fifth in steals per game and seventh in steals, while Johnson ranks third with six triple-doubles.Â

Series History
Since 1977, the Akron women's basketball team owns a 19-44 all-time series record against Ohio University. When competing inside the JAR, the Zips are 14-17 with UA's last win coming in 2018 when Akron defeated the Bobcats, 62-59.Â
Last Time Out
After a strong showing in the first half by the Akron women's basketball team and a 34-32 lead at halftime for the Zips, Ohio took control of the contest in the second half en route to defeating UA, 70-57, in Mid-American Conference action on Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.
It was a battle of two halves for the visiting Zips as Akron outscored Ohio 34-32 in the first half but was outscored 38-23 in the final 20 minutes of the contest.Â
UA was efficient in the first half and shot 41.4-percent from the floor, assisted on eight of its 12 field goals, and seven Zips etched their names into the scoring column. Senior Alyssa Clay (Indianapolis, Ind.) paced Akron tallying nine points which included two triples and three free throws. Senior Haliegh Reinoehl (Westfield, Ind.), junior Jordyn Dawson (Huntington, W. Va.), and sophomore Kendall Miller (Akron, Ohio) all scored six points each and recorded a combined 11 rebounds and five assists.Â
Defensively, Akron held a high-powered Ohio offense to just 32 first-half points and a low 29-percent field goal percentage. The Zips held three of the top scorers inside the MAC to a combined 21 points including just five points for Erica Johnson, the reigning Freshman of the Year.Â

Ohio: Bob Boldon, is in his seventh season at the helm of the Ohio women's basketball program. Boldon is the all-time winningest coach in Bobcat history recording 147 wins and a 76-38 Mid-American Conference Record. Bolden spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Zips.Â
Akron: Melissa Jackson begins her second season at the helm of the Akron women's basketball program. In her debut season, Jackson led the Zips to a 16-15 overall record, a 7-11 MAC ledger, improved by seven wins overall and +4 in conference victories. Jackson's squad became just the eighth team in program history to win at least 16 games in a season. Â

The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 28 years after joining the league in 1992 from the North Star Conference.

Inside 13 Mid-American Conference contests, three Zips have totaled over 100 points including Haliegh Reinoehl (209), Jordyn Dawson (153), and Shaunay Edmonds (129). Reinoehl averages team-highs in scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounds (9.5 rpg), including 30 offensive rebounds. Dawson, in her first season competing in the MAC, averages 12.8 points per game, 7.0 rebounds per contest, 36 assists, and 21 steals. The duo of Reinohel and Dawson are shooting an efficient 129-306 (42.2-percent) from the floor. Edmonds is posting 9.9 points per game to go along with 31 assists and 17 steals.Â

On Jan. 22, 2020 against Miami at James A. Rhodes Arena, Shaunay Edmonds knocked down a pair of free throws in the third quarter that marked her 999th and 1,000 career point. Edmonds became the 18th Zip in program history to accomplish the career milestone. In the Zips 23rd game of the 2019-20 season, in the same fashion as Edmonds, senior Haliegh Reinoehl stepped to the free throw line in the third quarter against Eastern Michigan, knocked down a pair of free throws, and on the second make became the 19th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone. Additionally, Edmonds and Reinoehl became the fifth duo in program history to reach the career point total in the same season

Hard To Beat
When heading into the fourth quarter with a lead, the Akron women's basketball team is hard to beat. UA has led its opponent after three quarters of play in 14 contests with the Zips coming out with 10 wins and fallen just four times (10-4, .714). Akron has held as big of a lead as +28 entering the fourth quarter against Youngstown State and as little as +1 against Denver. In UA's 10 wins, Akron has outscored the opposition, 205-161.
