Scouting the Eagles
Heading into week three of Mid-American conference play, Eastern Michigan is currently 1-2 in league contests while holding an 8-6 overall record. The Eagles opened MAC play on the road with a loss to Kent State (64-71) before falling to Buffalo in overtime at home (84-91) and claimed a victory over Western Michigan (64-61) in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Eagles saw non-conference wins over Cleveland State, Illinois State, Illinois-Chicago, Detroit Mercy, Fort Wayne, Longwood, and Northwood.Â
Danielle Minot paces the Eagles offense scoring 16.2 points per game which ranks seventh in the MAC. However, since the start of league games, Minot has scored 25.0 points per game including 43 points against Buffalo. In three MAC contests, Minot is shooting .424 from the field, .400 from long range, and has pulled down a team-best 26 rebounds (8.7/game). Minott's teammates, Corrione Cardwell, and Courtnie Lewis are averaging 13.8 and 10.2 points per match-up, respectively, to round out the Eagles triple threat. Cardwell has added 37 seven assists, 28 steals, and averages 4.0 rebounds per game, while Lewis owns 41 rebounds, 15 steals, and eight assists. Combined the trio has scored 546 of the Eagles 879 total team points (62 percent).Â
Starting point guard Jenna Annecchiarico, who leads the Eagles in assists (57), ranks first in the MACÂ in Assist/Turnover ratio while also ranking 19th in the country. Eastern Michigan has quick hands on the defensive end of the court with 128 steals, third-best in the conference and 104th in the NCAA. Minott is rated 69th in steals per game (2.38).Â

Akron versus Eastern Michigan, advantage to the Zips. Akron and the Eagles have competed on the hardwood 38 times since the program's first meeting in 1982 with the Zips owning a 23-15 overall record against the Eagles. Akron has defeated EMU in the previous four meetings, in seven of the last eight contests, and is currently riding a four-game win streak at the JAR.Â
Last Time Out
The University of Akron women's basketball team went on the road to Ypsilanti, Mich. and took down Eastern Michigan at the Convocation Center, 77-65, behind a career day by guard Shaunay Edmonds (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who scored 27 points en route to the Zips win on Sunday afternoon.
Edmonds shot an efficient 10-for-17 (59-percent) from the floor and tied a career-best four triples (4-for-9) to total her career-best 27 points. Along with scoring the ball, Edmonds added five steals, three assists, and two rebounds. Haliegh Reinoehl (Westfield, Ind.) followed Edmonds with her fourth triple-double of the season scoring 15 points and reeling in 14 rebounds during 31 minutes of play, while Destiny Perkins (Indianapolis, Ind.) chipped in 12 points, a game-high five assists, and four steals.
As a team, the Zips offense shot 43.1-percent (28-of-65) from the floor and 31.8-percent (7-for-22) from beyond the arc. Defensively, Akron forced 24 Eastern Michigan turnovers, a season-high for the Eagles, ripped 10 steals and scored 22 points off turnovers.

Eastern Michigan: Fred Castro is amidst his third season at the helm of the Eastern Michigan women's basketball program and owns a 25-51 overall record while going 8-35 inside the Mid-American Conference. A year ago, Castro's Eagles scored the ninth-most points in program history (2,150) and seventh-most field goals (810).Â
Akron: Melissa Jackson took over the Akron women's basketball team beginning in 2018-19. Jackson spent the previous 10 seasons on the Zips coaching staff as an assistant coach (four seasons) and as the associate head coach (six seasons). Jackson played a pivotal role in the recent Akron women's basketball success and looks to continue to grow the program.Â
