AKRON, Ohio – The Zips football team took to the field for its first practice of the 2013 season on Friday morning. The three-hour session was held at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field in ideal weather conditions.
Today was the group's first of five workouts as part of the NCAA-mandated acclimatization period prior to dressing in full pads. The squad will don shoulder pads next Monday and put on full pads for the first time on Thursday. Thursday will also feature the team's first two-a-day practice.
"We have a much bigger team this year, both in terms of player size and depth," second-year UA head coach Terry Bowden said after practice. "That is certainly the case on the line on both sides of the ball. We ask the players to practice hard and be enthusiastic, and I saw a lot of that today."
The team is scheduled to return to the practice field on Saturday morning.
