Zips Fall to Pittsburgh, 10-2

AKRON, OH --The Akron Zips struggled on Tuesday, falling to the Pittsburgh Panthers 10-2 despite the efforts of freshman Sophia Wygast, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and junior Autumn Bailey, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Akron got an RBI single from Bailey, scoring sophomore Brooke Sivek from third base.
The game remained tied until the third inning, when the Zips got going again on offense. Akron scored again on an RBI single off the bat of Wygast, plating Sivek for a second time, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Zips. Akron was unable to hold the lead, as Pittsburgh scored nine times over the remaining four innings to grab the 10-2 win.
GAME NOTES
» Sivek scored both of Akron's runs.
» Akron pitchers faced 36 Pittsburgh hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out three.
» Wygast led the Zips at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
