Akron's late comeback falls short in 7-6 loss to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, OH -- The Akron Zips softball team fell to the Bowling Green Falcons on Sunday afternoon in he series finale 7-6 after a late comeback effort by Akron fell short. The Zips are now 16-19 on the season and 7-5 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Freshman Delaney Jenkinson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The Zips deficit grew to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the sixth inning. The Akron offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by four hits from Autumn Bailey, Sophia Wygast, Lily Sullivan, and Macy Walters to bring the score to 5-5.

That 5-5 tie turned into a 6-5 Akron lead in the seventh. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Bowling Green scored twice in the bottom half of the seventh to grab the 7-6 win.

GAME NOTES

» Freshman Lily Sullivan led the Zips, amassing three base hits in the ballgame.
» Akron's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed four runs across.
» Akron pitchers faced 37 Bowling Green hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out one.
» The Zips drew four walks from Bowling Green pitching.
» Jenkinson led the Zips at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Zips will have two non-conference games on Tue. April 9 and Wed. April 10. Tuesday will be at home with a 4 p.m. first pitch against Pittsburgh at Lee R. Jackson Field while Wednesday will see Akron traveling to Dayton, Ohio to face the Flyers at 2 p.m.
