Masai and Hipple Lead Akron's Efforts at Tommy Evans Invitational

NORTON, Ohio - University of Akron freshman Brian Masai (Kitale, Kenya) captured the men's 6K title in a time of 17:54.99 to headline the Zips efforts at the 54th Annual Tommy Evans Invitational on Friday (Sept. 1) at Silver Creek Cross Country Park.

Leading Akron's efforts in the women's 5K with a career-best time of 18:16.68 was freshman Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio).

The Zips placed second in the men's team race, while the Akron women finished third in the women's field.
Â
Freshman Timothy Chesondin (Eldorat, Kenya) and redshirt senior Chase Easterling (Mt. Orab, Ohio) added top-10 finishes in the men's race crossing the line second and seventh, respectively, in 18:05.83 and 18:39.97. Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts in times of 19:14.17 and 19:22.43 was freshman Zayd Elkurd (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and junior Kyle Stober (Mogadore, Ohio).

Juniors Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio) and Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio), redshirt junior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Emily Razo (Salem, Ohio) led the Zips' scoring performances in the women's field crossing the line in 18:35.77, 18:53.43, 19:11.76 and 19:21.26, respectively.

The Zips continue their campaign traveling to Bowling Green, Ohio, for Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Sept. 15.
