Penultimate Tune-Up for MAC Championships as Akron Competes at Falcon Invite

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country squads travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to take part in the Falcon Invite hosted by Bowling Green on Friday (Oct. 17).
The meet will kick off for the Zips with the men's 8K at 4:30 p.m. before the women's 6K is contested at 5:10 p.m.

IN OUR LAST MEET
Sophomores Mercy Jebitok (Kapsabet, Kenya) and Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) were the top finishers for the Zips at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3 in Notre Dame, Ind.
Jebitok captured the title in the women's Gold 5K race crossing the line in a career-best time of 16:57.4. Junior Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) finished second in a time of 17:05.2.
Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts in the women's field were juniors Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) and Kennedy Schlessman (Huron, Ohio) along with sophomore Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) with times of 18:30.0 (PB), 18:38.9 (PB) and 19:52.3, respectively.
Kipchirchir garnered a school-record and career-best 8K time of 23:07.2, while junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) and freshman Noah Nyageo (Kitale, Kenya) posted career-best times of 23:15.9 and 23:45.6, respectively, to come across the line next for Akron.
Rounding out the scoring performances for the Zips in times of 25:04.0 (PB) and 25:28.6 (PB) were junior Majid Abuaun (Rocky River, Ohio) and senior Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio).

Additionally, sophomore Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) and junior Quinn Hopkins (Akron, Ohio) recorded times of 25:42.5 (PB) and 26:17.6.

Kirui crossed the line first in the men's 8K race in a time of 25:29.4, while Mary Munga led the Zips in the women's 6K race with a time of 20:48.6.

Akron has garnered times of 26:04.9, 26:27.4 and 27:00.4, respectively, from Stanford, Gonzalez and Justin Zapotoczny.Â

Rounding out the women's efforts was Hipple (21:29.0), Danielle Honaker (22:30.8), Grace Henderson (22:39.5), Sucharski (23:02.9), Towns (23:15.0) and Halle Sebest (23:34.5).
