Career-Best Performances Highlight Akron's Efforts at Joe Piane Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Akron sophomores Mercy Jebitok (Kapsabet, Kenya) and Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) were the top finishers for the Zips at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Oct. 3).

Jebitok captured the title in the women's Gold 5K race crossing the line in a career-best time of 16:57.4. Junior Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) finished second in a time of 17:05.2.

Rounding out Akron's scoring efforts in the women's field were juniors Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) and Kennedy Schlessman (Huron, Ohio) along with sophomore Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) with times of 18:30.0 (PB), 18:38.9 (PB) and 19:52.3, respectively.

Kipchirchir garnered a career-best 8K time of 23:07.2, while junior Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) and freshman Noah Nyageo (Kitale, Kenya) posted career-best times of 23:15.9 and 23:45.6, respectively, to come across the line next for Akron.

Rounding out the scoring performances for the Zips in times of 25:04.0 (PB) and 25:28.6 (PB) were junior Majid Abuaun (Rocky River, Ohio) and senior Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio).

Additionally, sophomore Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) and junior Quinn Hopkins (Akron, Ohio) recorded times of 25:42.5 (PB) and 26:17.6.

The Zips travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete at the Falcon Invite on Oct. 17.
