Cross Country Ready for Competitive Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational
October 01 | Cross Country
AKRON, Ohio — The Akron cross country teams will head west to Notre Dame for the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, October 2.
The women's team will compete first in the Blue 5K at 11 a.m., while the men's squad will follow in the Blue 8K race at 11:40. Both races will take place at Notre Dame's Burke Golf Course.
Akron will be competing against some of the best teams in the country. On the women's side, three of the top-15 teams in the USTFCCCA national poll — including No. 1-ranked NC State — are set to compete, as well as No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 12 South Carolina. The Fighting Irish are also ranked No. 15 on the men's side.
The Zips both come into the meet ranked in the top-15 in the Great Lakes Region, with the women's squad being ranked sixth and the men's 15th. The women's team won both of their meets to start the season, and Mercy Jebitok took the crown at WMU's George Dales Invitational and won MAC Runner of the Week honors.
