Munga Headlines Akron's Efforts at Falcon Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University of Akron cross country squad led by freshmen Mary Munga (Nyandarua, Kenya) winning the women's 6K earned a second-place team finish at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green on Friday (Oct. 13).
 
Munga captured the women's 6,000-meter title in a career-best time of 21:05.3 to headline Akron efforts in the nine-team field.
 
Freshman Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) and junior Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio) were next across the line for Akron placing 12th and 13th, respectively, in times of 22:01.1 and 22:04.2
 
Rounding out the Zips' scoring efforts was junior Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) and freshman Kayla Gonzales (Shelby, Ohio), who crossed the line in 22:14.8 and 22:17.8, respectively.
 
Additionally, redshirt junior Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio), freshman Lauren LaRue (Oregon, Ohio), junior Hannah Kerr (Chillicothe, Ohio), freshman Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio), junior Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.), redshirt sophomore Emily Razo (Salem, Ohio) , junior Brianna Martino (East Canton, Ohio), redshirt junior Julia Frombach (Avon, Ohio) and freshman Danielle Orr (Uniontown, Ohio) finished in times of 23:18.3, 23:28.8, 23:31.3, 23:43.0, 24:13.9, 24:31.8, 25:37.7, 26:34.8 and 27:21.1.
 
The Zips continue their campaign traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the Eastern Michigan Fall Classic on Friday (Oct. 20).
