SERIES HISTORY
Akron is meeting Eastern Michigan for the 34th time in program history with the Zips owning a 19-14 series advantage. In the last meeting between the two schools, the Eagles registered a 42-14 triumph past Akron on Nov. 12, 2019 at InfoCision Stadium.
The series between the two schools dates back to the 1923 campaign when the Zips earned a 10-3 home victory over Eastern Michigan.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
Eastern Michigan enters action this week against Akron at 5-4 on the campaign, including 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference, following a 27-24 setback versus Toledo on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Senior QB Taylor Powell directs the Eagles' attack passing for 1,232 yards, including throwing for eight touchdowns. Senior RB Samson Evans has rushed for a team-high 722 yards and nine touchdowns, while the duo of junior RB Jaylon Jackson and sophomore QB Austin Smith have rushed for 280 and 238 yards, respectively, while running for three combined touchdowns. Senior WR Tannue Knue has pulled down 30 passes for 425 yards and five touchdowns.
Defensively, the trio of senior LB Joe Sparacio, junior LB Chase Kline and senior DL Jose Ramirez have combined to record 65, 60 and 47 tackles, including posting 28, 24, 29 solo stops, respectively. Eastern Michigan has tallied 14 sacks and 37 tackles for a loss.
As a team, the Eagles average 27.0 points per game, while their opponents net 30.2 points per outing. Eastern Michigan has thrown for 204.7 yards and rushed for 137.8 yards per tilt.
As a team, the Eagles rank fourth in the NCAA in red zone offense (.970), 23rd in blocked kicks (2), 26th in third down conversions (.471) and 44th in kickoff returns (21.52).
Individually, Jackson is ranked first in the NCAA in kickoff return touchdowns (1), fourth in kickoff returns (28.9) and seventh in combined kickoff returns (462). Additionally, Evans is rated 21st in the NCAA in rushing touchdowns (9), 29th in rushing yards (722), 30th in total touchdowns (9) and 31st in rushing yards per game (90.2), while Ramirez ranks first in sacks per game (1.00), fifth in tackles for a loss (1.6) and 32nd in forced fumbles (0.25).
IN OUR LAST MEETING (NOV. 12, 2019 - AKRON, OHIO)
Midweek football returned to the Mid-American Conference as Akron fell 42-14 to Eastern Michigan on a frigid, 22-degree evening at InfoCision Stadium.
Akron posted 342 total yards of total offense as QB Kato Nelson led the way, completing 20-of-33 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. With 35 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Nelson threw a career-long 87-yard strike to WR Timothy Scippio for the first score, and WR Julian Hicks grabbed the second with 1:09 left in the game.
Hicks led the Zips' receiving corps with a team-best seven receptions for 41 yards, while WR Jeremiah Knight caught six passes for 121 yards. Scippio corralled 91 yards on two receptions.
Defensively, CB Randy Cochran and redshirt senior LB Bubba Arslanian (Aurora, Ohio) led Akron with 10 tackles apiece.
JACQUES-LOUIS NAMED TO BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST
Akron senior WR Shocky Jacques-Louis was named by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., the Florida-based creator and sponsor of the prestigious Biletnikoff Award to the 2022 Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
A dynamic playmaker for the Zips, Jacques-Louis has pulled in a team-best 61 catches this season for a team-leading 770 yards, including a pair of touchdowns. Averaging 12.6 yards per reception, he has surpassed the 100-yard receiving plateau in four games on the campaign, including a season-high 152 yards at Ohio on Oct. 8, while registering 103 yards on the strength of nine catches at No. 1 Tennessee on Sept. 17.
Jacques-Louis is ranked sixth in the NCAA (FBS) in receptions (61), 13th in receptions per game (6.8), 14th in receiving yards (770) and 25th in receiving yards per contest (85.6), while also rating 24th in kickoff returns (23.5), 33rd in all-purpose yards (119.78) and 34th in combined kick returns (308).
He leads the MAC in receiving yards (770), while ranking second in receiving yards per tilt (85.6) and receptions per game (6.8). Through Akron's first five league games, Jacques-Louis has pulled in a conference-best 40 catches for a league-leading 8.0 receptions per game on the strength of 94.6 yards per outing.

• QB DJ Irons connected on a school-record 43 completions against Ohio finishing the game 43-of-54 for a career-high 418 yards passing. His 43 completions stand as a single-game high for Division I this season and best the previous school-record mark of 37 set by Dalton Williams in 2012. Additionally, his 54 pass attempts ranks as the fifth-best single-game performance in program history.
• For the first time this season the Zips had a pair of receivers break the 100-yard plateau as WR Shocky Jacques-Louis and WR Daniel George posted career-high totals of 152 and 108 yards, respectively, as the duo each pulled in 11 catches versus Ohio.
• LB Bubba Arslanian surpassed the 300-tackle plateau for his decorated career at Akron with a 12-tackle effort against Bowling Green on Oct. 1 and enters play against Eastern Michigan with 355 career tackles.
• The Zips have posted an interception in four of Akron's nine games this season.
