Eastern Michigan Edges Akron on Senior Night, 34-28

AKRON, Ohio - A full slate of #MACtion on Tuesday night saw Akron and Eastern Michigan battle on CBS Sports Network at InfoCision Stadium with the Eagles holding on for a 34-28 Mid-American Conference triumph.

Sophomore RB Cam Wiley (Las Vegas, Nev.) rushed for a career and Akron season-high 157 yards en route to finding the end zone three times to spark the offensive efforts of the Zips. Wiley posted touchdown runs of 55, 11 and one yard on the evening on the strength of 18 carries.

Redshirt junior QB Jeff Undercuffler, Jr. (Delran, N.J.) passed for an Akron career-best 133 yards on 8-of-18 passing, while redshirt junior QB DJ Irons (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was 10-of-16 for 90 yards.

Sophomore WR Alex Adams (Osyaka, Miss.) pulled in a team-high six catches for 102 yards for the Zips, including 93 yards after the catch, and found the end zone in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, the Zips were led by a team-high 12 tackles from senior LB Bubba Arslanian (Aurora, Ohio), including four solo tackles, a career-best two pass break-ups and a half tackle for a loss. Arslanian also posted his first career interception in the third quarter. Redshirt freshman DB Darrian Lewis (Akron, Ohio) and redshirt junior DB Nate Thompson (Sanford, N.C.) each added nine tackles for the Zips. Akron finished the evening with seven tackles for a loss and a pair of sacks from redshirt senior DL Curtis Harper (McKeesport, Pa.) and redshirt DL Victor Jones (Sacramento, Calif.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
• EMU recorded the game's first points as Akron held the Eagles to a 24-yard field goal on the visitor's initial drive of the game.
• Akron responded with seven points, taking a brief lead in the first quarter. Adams found the end zone on a 10-yard pass from Irons at the 4:30 mark. Â
• The Eagles retaliated with 14 unanswered points to establish a 17-7 advantage before Akron found pay dirt a second time. Wiley crossed the goal line on a one-yard run to cap a 17-play, 71-yard drive that lasted 7:45.
• An Eastern Michigan scored before the break and held a 24-17 lead at halftime.Â
• The Eagles increased the lead to 31-14 by the end of the third quarter.
• Akron used the last play of the third frame for a 54-yard passing play from Undercuffler to Adams. On the first play of the fourth stanza Wiley scampered for 11 yards for his second touchdown of the evening.
• Two minutes later, Wiley found the end zone a third time on a 55-yard carry, cutting the deficit to three points 31-28 with 12:55 to play. Â
• With 8:02 left to play, EMU connected with a 43-yard field goal for a 34-28 lead.Â
