AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's soccer squad continues Mid-American Conference play welcoming Bowling Green to FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 6, before traveling to battle Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 9. The tilt with the Falcons is set for 7 p.m., while the showdown against the Huskies is set for 2 p.m. ET.

The Zips enters action on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 1-6-2 on the campaign following a 2-1 setback at Miami on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) leads Akron with team-high marks in goals (2), assists (2), points (6), shots (14) and shots on goal (6). Sophomore GK's Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) and Maxima Carlitz (Stolberg, Germany) have combined to register 44 saves en route to posting a 1.89 goals against average.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Jen Simonetti, the Zips return 16 players from last season's squad, including eight players who started 10 or more games. Akron is led by sophomore Katie Stafford (Gahanna, Ohio) who paced the team with four goals, an assist, and six shots on goal last season, while sophomore Sarah Nguyen (Irwin, Pa.) led the team with four assists and eight shots on goal. In the net, the Zips return Cuirinier, who made 18 starts in goal and registered 94 saves.
The Zips welcome three true freshmen to the squad in Ari Mahoney (Medina, Ohio), King, and Kristina Syragakis (Quebec, Canada), while also adding three transfers in Clara Krohn (Akron, Ohio), Merica Abnathy (Lakeland, Fla.), and Lacey Bernick (Huntingdon, Pa.).

Northern Illinois enters action on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 5-4-2 on the campaign, including 2-2-0 in league play, following a 2-0 victory over Central Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Junior Claudia Muessig leads the Huskies with team-high marks in goals (4), points (9), shots (18), shots on goal (10) and game-winners (2). Freshman GK Deighton Warner has pulled in 31 saves en route to posting a 1.30 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
The Zips will square off against Bowling Green for the 22nd time in program history with the Falcons leading the all-time series 14-6-1. A year ago, Akron dropped a 3-0 decision to Bowling Green at FirstEnergy Stadium on Oct. 24, 2021.
Akron and Northern Illinois are meeting for the 21st time in program history with the RedHawks leading the all-time series 9-8-3. A season ago, the Zips and Huskies battled to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Oct. 14, 2021 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
