King’s Brace Propels Akron Past Toledo, 5-0

AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron women's soccer freshman Emma King (Akron, Ohio) registered a two-goal and one-assist performance to lead the Zips to a dominating 5-0 Mid-American Conference victory past Toledo on Sunday, Oct 23 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Akron's five-goal effort stands as the most-prolific offensive performance against a league foe in program history, while also representing the fifth-best single-game outing against any opponent.
Sophomore Ella Hadley (Concord, Ohio) added a goal and a pair of assists, while redshirt freshman Laurie-Anne Renaud (Quebec City, Quebec) and sophomore Katie Stafford (Gahanna, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring efforts with a goal apiece.
Hadley netted what proved to the be the game-winning tally at the 10:26 mark striking a shot from the corner of the box that found the Upper 90 off an assist from King.
King followed scoring the first of her two goals on the afternoon in the 21st minute (20:35) heading home a shot courtesy of an assist from Hadley.
Renaud pushed Akron's margin to 3-0 at the 28:14 mark with a give-and-go goal with assists from Hadley and sophomore Lacey Bernick (Huntington, Pa.).
King completed her brace on the day finding the back of the net in the 80th minute (79:34) heading home a header off a free kick from Stafford.
Stafford culminated the scoring on the afternoon with her first goal of the season redirecting a corner kick with a header to the back off the net from an assist by freshman Kristina Syragakis (Quebec City, Quebec).
Sophomore Morgan Pentz (Broadview Heights, Ohio) paced the Zips' attack with a team-high four shots, while Hadley and King added three shots each. Sophomore GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) pulled in a trio of saves to record her second shutout of the season.
