AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's lacrosse team is set to face a pair of key Mid-American Conference showdowns as the Zips host Detroit and Robert Morris at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field this upcoming week. The Zips open the week battling the Titans on Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. before the league-leading Colonials on Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING DETROIT:
Detroit will be playing in its first match in a month against Akron (5-5, 2-3 MAC), with the Titans owning an 0-2 mark, including a 0-2 ledger in league play following a 12-7 setback versus Youngstown State on March 13. Junior Elise Harder directs Detroit's offensive attack with team-high marks in goals (5), points (5), shots (8) and shots on goal (7). Senior GK Maddie Johnson has posted 11 saves on the campaign in net for the Titans. Detroit is led by first-year head coach Dwayne Hicks, who owns a 0-2 ledger.
SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS:
Robert Morris has won its last four matches and stands at 9-2 start on the campaign, including a 5-0 mark in the Mid-American Conference, following the Colonials' 23-4 victory over Kent State on Saturday, April 9. Senior Mackenzie Gandy leads Robert Morris in goals (30), points (42), shots (90) and shots on goals (59), while senior GK Katelyn Miller has started all 11 matches for the Colonials and has recorded 73 saves. Robert Morris is led by fourth-year head coach Katrina Silva, who owns a 161-133 ledger in 18 years as a head coach.

Redshirt freshman GK Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) is rated fifth in the NCAA in in save percentage (.518) and 14th goals against average (9.58). Redshirt freshmen Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) is ranked 44th in the country in shots on goal per contest (5.10), 46th in shots per game (6.70) and 50th in goals (28), while sophomore Kaylee Riggins (Zionsville, Ind.) stands 29th in draw controls per outing (5.78).

As a team, Akron is rated 11th in the NCAA in ground ball per game (20.70), 23rd in caused turnovers (9.70), 28th in save percentage (.468), 33rd in scoring defense (10.80), 38th in draw control percentage (.527), 46th in shots per game (29.90) and 47th in winning percentage (.500).

University of Akron women's lacrosse redshirt sophomore Kaylee Riggins (Zionsville, Ind.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:39 left in regulation to complete a come-from-behind 14-13 victory for the Zips over Youngstown State on Friday, April 9.

Redshirt freshmen Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) and Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio), Riggins and freshman Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.) helped Akron erase a four-goal second-half deficit finishing the contest registering four, three, three and two goals, respectively. Kiefer, McMullen and Riggins each tallied a pair of goals in the decisive final period. Lauren Ottensmeyer directed the Penguins' efforts on the night collecting a match-high five goals.
The Zips also benefitted from goals from redshirt freshman Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) and redshirt junior Anna Dennison (Fallston, Md.), while Kiefer, Riggins, Boyd, McMullen, and freshmen Madeline Shewbridge (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) tallied three, three, one, one, one and one assists, respectively.

Redshirt freshmen GK Abby Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa.) earned the victory in net for Akron garnering a trio of second-half saves, while Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) pulled in eight stops. Elicia Wells recorded 15 saves for Youngstown State.

The Penguins scored a trio of goals over the final 6:26 of the opening stanza to break open a five-all deadlock to assume an 8-6 lead at the halftime intermission.

Youngstown State opened the second half with the initial two goals of the period to take its largest advantage in the game, 10-6, with 24:01 remaining in regulation.

The Zips responded to the challenge netting four straight tallies to square the contest at 10 after McMullen scored the equalizer at the 17:25 mark off an assist from Kiefer.

The two sides exchanged the next four goals before McMullen gave Akron a 13-12 lead with her third goal of the evening at the 26:13 mark.

The Penguins answered squaring the match with a goal from Erin Clark with 2:50 left in the match.

Riggins followed with what proved to be the game-winning tally with 1:39 remaining in regulation to give the Zips the victory.
