TOLEDO, Ohio– In the fourth Mid-American Conference series of the 2019 Akron softball campaign, junior Adrian Smith (St. Clairsville, Ohio) tossed her third consecutive complete game but Toledo would walk away with a 3-0 win to take game one of a three-game series on Friday afternoon at the Scott Park Softball Complex.Â
Â
Smith, who recorded her sixth complete game of the season, tossed 6.0 innings, allowed just 3 runs on 10 hits, struck out four, and walked two.Â
Â
From the plate, the Zips lone hit in the contest came off the bat of junior Macky Mitchiner (Riverside, Calif.) with a double to left field in the third inning. UA did record four base runners in the contest but left them all on.Â
Â
Smith worked out of a bases-loaded jam in two innings (second and fourth) against the Rockets. However, the UT offense won the battle in the second inning against Smith and scored two runs to claim a 2-0 lead courtesy of a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to left field.Â
Â
The Rockets would add an additional insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning before securing the 3-0 victory by setting Akron down, 1-2-3, in the seventh.
Â
Akron and Toledo close out the Mid-American Conference series at the Scott Park Softball Complex tomorrow, Saturday, April 5. The Zips and Rockets are scheduled for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
