Akron Football Hosts Pro Day Workout
March 11 | Football
AKRON, Ohio - Ten members of last season's University of Akron football team had an opportunity to work out for NFL scouts Thursday afternoon at Stile Athletics Field House.
The 10 Zips included RB Alex Allen, WR Jalil Carter, DB Kevin Davis, WR Jeremy LaFrance, DE Shawn Lemon, DT Almondo Sewell, LB Mike Thomas, OL Mike Ward, OL Corey Woods and RB Nate Burney.
Overall, it was an impressive day for Carter, who won the verticle jump with a leap of 37-inches, the broad jump with a mark of 10-05.50 and the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.38.
Not to be out-done, Sewell also opened some eyes with an amazing display in the weight room. The senior from Trenton, N.J., bench pressed 225 pounds 44 times, which was 18 more than any other competitor on the day. To put that into proper perspective, Oregon State defensive lineman Stephen Paea recently set the bench press record at this year's NFL combine in Indianapolis with 49 repetitions.
The 2011 NFL Draft will be held in Radio City Music Hall in New York with the first round beginning on Thurs., Apr. 28. The second and third rounds will be held on Fri., Apr. 29 with rounds 4-7 to follow on Sat., Apr. 30.
