Preston Reid is in his sixth season on the Akron women's basketball staff, his fourth as assistant coach. Reid spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant manager for Coach Kest.
As an assistant coach, Reid will work with the Zips' post players and assist with recruiting and scouting reports. He is also in charge of the program's equipment and scheduling.
A year ago, one of his pupils, Sina King started all 31 games for the Zips averaging a team-best 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest en route to being tabbed as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, only the second Zip to earn the honor.
She led the conference in scoring (20.3), rebounding (9.3) and defensive rebounds (6.7) and was distinguished by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as an honorable mention All-American. King capped her career with 888 rebounds and 1,634 points, the third- and fourth-highest totals in program history while scoring in double figures 87 times.
Prior to Akron, Reid was a practice player for one season and the head manager and video coordinator for three seasons at Ball State University, where he graduated in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in English education. Under former Cardinals head coach Kelly Packard, Reid was a member of the staff in 2009 when the program defeated perennial powerhouse Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Reid spent the 2011-12 season at Florida State University as the assistant video coordinator, where he was in charge of logging games, breaking down film and film exchange. He has also spent time as a video intern with the NBA's Indiana Pacers and WNBA's Indiana Fever.
Reid graduated with a master's degree in sport science and coaching from Akron in 2014.
