Sophia Geier, Women's Tennis
AKRON, Ohio - Junior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) was named the Zips' Student Athlete of the Week, presented by the University of Akron, on March 20.
Geier helped the Zips pick up wins over Milwaukee and Binghamton with a pair of victories in both singles and doubles action over the weekend.
The junior posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Milwaukee's Labina Petrovska and a took a 6-0, 6-4 decision against the Bearcats' Annie DiMuro. The native German has now won 14 straight singles matches and is 14-1 in singles play on the year. Geier also teamed up with junior Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) to register a pair of wins and the duo remained unbeaten in doubles action this spring.
Akron has won 14 straight matches and sits at 15-2 on the season.
