Akron sweeps Bowling Green in Saturday doubleheader

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Akron Zips swept the Bowling Green Falcons in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-2 and 7-5. Both games saw the Zips break tied games in the fifth inning to win and advance to 16-18 on the season and 7-4 in Mid-American Conference competition. In the circle, Akron pitchers Macy Walters and Haley Croyle each threw complete games. Walters (4-4) got the win for Akron in game one after giving up two runs, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out four. Croyle (6-8) started in the circle for game two, giving up five runs, on 11 hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Brooke Sivek came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Falcons then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Walters, which brought the score level at 2-2.
That 2-2 tie turned into a 3-2 Akron lead in the sixth.
Akron kept the Falcons scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. Senior Madison Dudek crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, bringing the Akron advantage to 4-2. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.

» Akron's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed one run across.
» The Zips out-hit the Falcons at a 6-3 clip.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron plated two runs when freshman Sophia Wygast left the yard with sophomore Brooke Sivek aboard.
The Falcons then tied the ballgame at two before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Senior Tiffany Stevens came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 3-2.
Bowling Green came back to tie the ballgame at three before Akron reclaimed a 4-3 advantage in the fourth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Autumn Bailey.
The Falcons then evened up the ballgame at four before Akron fought back to retake their advantage in the fifth inning. Freshman Lily Sullivan crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, bringing the score to 5-4 in favor of Akron.
Bowling Green came back to tie the game at five before the Zips reclaimed a 7-5 advantage in the sixth inning. Akron put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Bailey. The score remained 7-5 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
