Softball Prepares for Final Mid-Week Doubleheader on Tuesday

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball team will enter their final week of the regular season with a doubleheader in Athens, Ohio against the Ohio University Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon.
What's Ahead
The Zips and Bobcats will have a Mid-American Conference clash on Tuesday with two games. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the second game will follow. Fans can follow the action via live stats or by watching on ESPN+.

Scouting Ohio
The Bobcats are 26-22 on the season with a 14-8 mark in MAC play, including a three-game sweep over Buffalo this past weekend. Ohio has the second best pitching staff in the conference by ERA (3.05) and walks allowed (110). Skipp Miller has 102 strikeouts in her 33 appearances, 20 complete games and three saves. Shelby Westler leads the team with her .320 batting average while Tori O'Brien and Emma Hoffner each have 43 hits on the year. Yasmine Logan is the Bobcats leader with 9 home runs, 35 RBI, and 21 walks. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Ohio is sitting in third place within the conference standings.
Scouting Akron
Akron won the series against Central Michigan over the weekend to improve to 22-26 overall and 10-11 in conference. Meagan Lee is leading the MAC in batting average (.440) and hits (77). Brooke Sivek is one of only three players in the MAC with more than 20 stolen bases with her 25 recorded steals and she is in the top five for walks with 26. Sophia Wygast has hit 11 home runs this season, to place her in 9th place in the conference. In the circle, Macy Walters earned two wins over the weekend against Central Michigan. She leads the Zips with a 4.06 ERA, striking out 73 opponents and allowing the lowest number of hits (123) and runs (79).

Akron Notes
- The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 31 years after joining the league in 1993 from the North Star Conference.
- Under second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, the Zips return 10 players from the 2023 squad and added 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster.
- The 2023 season marks the 48th season of intercollegiate competition for the Akron softball program.
