Zips Fall to Bobcats in Tuesday's Doubleheader

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Akron Zips were swept by the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon. The Zips were shutout in game one by a score of 5-0 despite colling seven hits and a late inning comeback came up short in game two as they fell 9-7. Kalli Macintosh-Houlder racked up four RBIs in game two.Â

GAME 1 | Ohio 5, Akron 0
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by sophomore Brooke Sivek, who went 3-for-4 in the game. Sophomore M. Lee put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the fifth, when Macintosh-Houlder made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Sivek led the Zips, picking up three base hits in the ballgame and going 3-for-4.
» Akron pitchers limited Ohio to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
» Akron pitchers faced 29 Ohio hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out three.
GAME 2 | Ohio 9, Akron 7
Macintosh-Houlder hit a home run in the sixth inning in her only at-bat for the Zips to drive in 4 runs. Tiffany Stevens put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Lily Sullivan also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Akron scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Stevens.
The Bobcats then rallied to score eight runs and take an 8-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the sixth. The Akron offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Macintosh, which brought the score to 8-7 in favor of the Bobcats. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Ohio added one run to their tally on the way to a 9-7 final.

The Akron Zips will close out the regular season against rival Kent State. Akron will be in Kent on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
