Softball to Celebrate Senior Day with Weekend Series Against Central Michigan

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball team will host the Central Michigan Chippewas for a weekend series at Lee R. Jackson Field. After Saturday's game, the Zips will honor their four members of the class of 2024 – Madison Dudek, Tiffany Stevens, Cailey Joyce, and Kalli Macintosh-Houlder.
What's Ahead
After changes in the schedule due to weather, the Zips will now play a doubleheader on Friday, with the first game starting at 2 p.m. Saturday will be a single game with first pitch at 1 p.m. and following the game will be the Akron Senior Day recognitions. Fans can follow the action via live stats on GoZips.com or on the Akron Athletics App. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.

Scouting Central Michigan
The Chippewas are coming off a 9-5 victory over the MAC's top team, the Miami RedHawks – it's Miami's first conference lost this season as Central Michigan snapped their 23-game winning streak. Abbey Tolmie leads the offense with her .291 batting average and has scored 25 runs this season. She has also drawn a team-high 30 walks. Carly Sleeman has 36 hits, three of which have been home runs while driving in 25 runs. Skylar Coberley has not been caught stealing on her team-high 7 attempts. In the circle, Grace Letho has thrown nine complete games, including Sunday's win over Miami. She also has a team high 3 saves to go with her team-high 84 strikeouts in 109.2 innings pitched.

The Zips are coming off a series loss to Ball State over the weekend. Meagan Lee added three hits in the series finale, bringing her total for the season to 64. Lee also leads Akron with a .418 batting average and 67 total bases. Sophia Wygast has 33 RBI on 35 hits and 8 home runs. Brooke Sivek continues to be the team leader in walks (24) and stolen bases (24). Macy Walters leads Akron in the circle with a 3.97 ERA and 55 strikeouts.

- The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 31 years after joining the league in 1993 from the North Star Conference.
- Under second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, the Zips return 10 players from the 2023 squad and added 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster.
- The 2023 season marks the 48th season of intercollegiate competition for the Akron softball program.
