Softball Faces Final Non-Conference Opponent of the Year

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips will host their final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon against Purdue Fort Wayne at 4 p.m. at Lee R. Jackson Field.

Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne
Purdue Fort Wayne has a 9-28 mark overall on the season and a 4-11 record in conference. They are coming off a 2-1 weekend against IUPUI. In league play, Aglaia Rudd has a .460 batting average and is slugging .720 with seven doubles. All of those marks are top-10 in the Horizon League and the most among freshmen. She also has 15 RBIs, which is also top-10 in the HL and second among newcomers. Bailey Manos has 42 hits this season, which ranks second in the Horizon League, including her first career home run against IUPUI for a walk-off win. Alanah Jones is third in the Horizon League with 105 strikeouts this season.

Akron and the Mastodons have faced each other three times, all in neutral site tournaments and the Zips won all three games in 2017 and 2018.
Scouting Akron
The Zips are coming off a weekend series against the MAC's top-team, in which the Miami RedHawks won all three games. However, during the three game series, Akron had two grand slams off the bats of Sophia Wygast and Morgan Sizemore. Wygast now has 30 RBI on the year and eight home runs. Meagan Lee leads the offense for the season with her .399 batting average and 55 hits. Brooke Sivek has an on-base percentage of .381 and has stolen 22 bases. In the circle, Macy Walters has struck out 50 batters and allowed 97 hits, both of which are the best marks for the team.

- The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 31 years after joining the league in 1993 from the North Star Conference.
- Under second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, the Zips return 10 players from the 2023 squad and added 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster.
