AKRON, Ohio --Sophomore Meagan Lee collected four hits to help propel the Akron Zips over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 7-1 on Tuesday.

In addition to her four hits, Lee had an RBI to lead the Zips. Freshman Katie Cantrell compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Lily Sullivan also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

Sophomore Haley Croyle (7-9) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (19-23). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. Senior Cailey Joyce also made an impact in the circle for the Zips, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Akron got an RBI single from freshman Sophia Wygast, scoring junior Autumn Bailey from second base.

The score stayed at 1-1 until the third inning, when the Zips put runs on the scoreboard once again. Akron picked up two runs when a single from Cantrell brought home Lee and Bailey, which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.

Akron kept Purdue Fort Wayne without a run before expanding their lead to 4-1 the following inning. Lee's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Zips.

Akron held the Mastodons without a run before building on their lead in the sixth inning. The Zips scored twice, with one run coming across on Sullivan's 2-out single, bringing the Akron advantage to 6-1.
