Softball Heads on the Road for MAC Series Against Ball State

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips softball team will head to Muncie, Indiana for a series against Mid-American Conference opponent, Ball State.
What's Ahead
The Zips and Cardinals will have a three-game series over the weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. They'll conclude the series on Sunday with a single game at noon. Fans can follow the action with Live Stats throughout the weekend. Saturday's doubleheader games will be streamed live on the Ball State All-Access while Sunday's game will be on ESPN+.

Ball State enters the series at 20-23 overall and 7-10 in conference after being swept by the top team in the MAC – the Miami RedHawks in a doubleheader on Tuesday 8-3 and 4-2. McKayla Timmons hit her 20th home run of the season, nearing the Ball State single season record at 23 set in 2013. Timmons also leads the team with 47 RBI, 50 hits, with a batting average of .385. In the nightcap of the doubleheader against Miami, BSU pitcher Francys King limited Miami to its fewest runs (4) and fewest hits (5) in league play this season. On the season, King has struck out 58 opponents, walked 36 batters, and has a 3.32 ERA.

The Zips are 19-23 on the season, with a 7-8 mark in the MAC. Akron is coming off a 7-1 non-conference victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Meagan Lee collected 4 hits in the game brining her season total to 59 and increased her batting average to .415. Sophia Wygast recorded one RBI on Tuesday, she now has 31 RBIs on 31 hits and 11 walks. Brooke Sivek has 22 walks on the year and stole a base against the Mastodons to bring her total to 23. In the circle, Haley Croyle leads the team with a 3.89 ERA and has only walked 30 batters. Macy Walters has a team-high 50 strikeouts while Cailey Joyce has two saves on the year.

- The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 31 years after joining the league in 1993 from the North Star Conference.
- Under second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, the Zips return 10 players from the 2023 squad and added 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster.
- The 2023 season marks the 48th season of intercollegiate competition for the Akron softball program.
