Zips Overpowered by RedHawks

AKRON, Ohio - Akron fell to top-ranked Miami on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader by scores of 9-1 and 14-7. In game two, Sophia Wygast blasted a grand slam to give the Zips a momentary lead before the RedHawks responded with eight runs in the final three innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 7-0 in the fourth inning when they scored their only run of the game thanks to Lily Sullivan's RBI double. Akron was unable to get any closer, as Miami added two runs to their tally on the way to a 9-1 final.
GAME NOTES

Wygast racked up four RBIs on a grand slam in the fifth inning, but the Akron Zips fell to the Miami (OH) RedHawks 14-7 on Saturday.
Autumn Bailey compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Tiffany Stevens also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the second inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Stevens' RBI double with two outs.
The RedHawks expanded their lead to 6-1 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the third. Bailey came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which tightened the RedHawks lead to 6-2.
Akron kept the RedHawks off the board before rallying to grab a 7-6 lead in the fourth. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Wygast to cap off a two-out rally. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Miami (OH) scored eight times over the remaining three innings to grab the 14-7 win.
