Mobley Scores 23 Points in Akron's 65-57 Win Over Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - University of Akron junior Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a career-high 23 points to help lead the Zips over Central Michigan, 65-57, on the road Saturday (March 9).
Mobley added eight rebounds and five steals to her 23-point game to lead the Zips. Junior Reagan Bass (Strongsville, Ohio) helped out with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while sophomore Teniesha Clarke (Burlington, Ontario) chipped in with eight points and four steals.
Clarke pulled down four offensive rebounds to help the Zips racke up 15 offensive caroms which were turned into nine second-chance points.
The Akron defense forced 19 Central Michigan turnovers and turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Mobley's five steals led the way individually for the Zips.
How It Happened
Akron started off the afternoon strong, pushing out to a 12-7 lead heading into the second quarter. Akron did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 12 points close to the basket.
Akron kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter, highlighted by a bucket from junior Zakia Rasheed (Avon, Ind.), to increase its lead to 18-7. The Zips kept that advantage for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 32-21 margin heading into halftime. Akron dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the stanza.
In the third period, Akron continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from redshirt senior Morgan Haney (Piqua, Ohio), to expand its advantage further to 46-30 with 4:56 to go in the third. The Zips held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 51-35 edge.
The Zips were outscored over the final 10 minutes of play but hit key free throws to earn the victory.
