AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron softball program home opener stands as the opening series for Mid-American Conference play against Toledo at Lee R. Jackson Field this weekend.

What's Ahead
Akron and Toledo will open league play on Friday, March 15 with a 7-inning game beginning at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 with first pitch being thrown at 1 p.m.

Scouting Toledo
Toledo enters MAC play 9-10 on the year, including a 3-2 mark last weekend at the CSF/LBSU Tournament in Fullerton, California. Eli Enriuqez owns team-best .435 batting average, while Riley Mohr is hitting .370 and tied for a team-high 6 doubles with Kendra Vander Lugt who has 14 RBI. The duo of Sophia Knight and Kylee Graham have combined to pitch 120.0 innings in the circle and have combined for 77 strike outs. Knight boasts a team-best 1.84 ERA. Combined, the Rockets have 8 homeruns on the year.

Scouting Akron
The Zips are currently 8-12 overall record and coming off a midweek doubleheader split at Youngstown State. The Zips dropped the first game 5-3 and battled back for a 10-8 win in the nightcap. Akron is led by Meagan Lee with a .415 batting average and is 27-for-65 on the year with a team-best 27 hits. Lee scored 11 runs and registered six RBI with one homerun. Brooke Sivek follows with 15 hits and 12 runs scored, while Sophia Wygast has 13 hits and a team-high four homeruns. Alexis Campbell has also scattered 13 around the yard. In the circle, Haley Croyle and Macy Walters leads the squad with 12 appearances. Croyle owns eight starts with one complete game and 45.0 innings of work. She has struckout a team-high 20 batters with a 3.58 ERA. Walters owns six starts with one complete game and struckout 18 batters in 38.1 innings pitched. Cailey Joyce is tied for the team-high in strike outs with 20 and owns a 4.72 ERA.

• The Zips have been a member of the Mid-American Conference for the past 31 years after joining the league in 1993 from the North Star Conference.
• Under second-year head coach Craig Nicholson, the Zips return 10 players from the 2023 squad and added 12 newcomers to the 2024 roster.
• The 2023 season marks the 48th season of intercollegiate competition for the Akron softball program.
