Zips Host Huskies For Three Games Starting Friday

Akron, Ohio – The Akron baseball team returns home after a trip to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to battle Northern Illinois for a conference series beginning on Friday, March 15.

SCOUTING REPORT
The Huskies come into the weekend with a 5-12 overall record and a 2-1 record in the MAC. Northern Illinois recently fell 11-1 to Purdue on the road. Before the non-conference contest, NIU went 2-1 against Ohio, winning the first and third games of the series.
Although scoring one run against the Boilermakers, the Huskies were able to get eight hits and drew two walks. Charlie Parcell drove in the lone run of the game for NIU on a single through the right side.
Eric Erato leads the Huskies with a .358 batting average. He has a team-high 24 hits, three doubles, six RBI, and four stolen bases. Kelley Mason has seven doubles among his 19 hits while recording three home runs and 18 RBI. Collin Summerhill has seven home runs and leads NIU with 22 RBI while going 4-for-4 on stolen bases.
The Huskies see Ty Brachbill with a 2-1 record through four starts. He has a 5.14 ERA with 21 innings of work and 18 strikeouts. Out of the pen, DJ Hess has a 1-0 record in four appearances, one save, a 1.93 ERA, 4.2 innings of work, and four strikeouts. Tommy Meyer is the leader for the Huskies pitching staff in strikeouts with 19.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Evan Bottone went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Akron Zips in a 13-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Tuesday.
Bottone led the way offensively for the Zips, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and three RBI. Max Bowman provided a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Jack Kelley (1-1) got the ball to start for Akron (3-12) and took the loss. Josiah Ross was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits.
The Zips were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Bottone's bases-clearing double put all three runs on the board in the inning for Akron. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Pittsburgh added nine runs to their tally on the way to a 13-3 final.

PERKS OF THE JOB
Sean Perkins was named the MAC Pitcher of the week on March 4 after picking up a win over No. 10/12 Duke.
Coming in down 2-1 against Duke in the second game of the series, Perkins pitched five innings of near-spotless baseball as the Zips defeated the No. 10/12 Blue Devils 4-3 on March 2. Throwing the final five innings, Perkins held his own with just two hits allowed along with one run and two strikeouts to earn the win. He sent Duke three-up-three down in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and ended the ninth with a strikeout. Perkins also held Duke's hitters to a combined .118 batting average over the five innings of work.
ONE TO REMEMBER
Head coach Bryan Faulds collected his first win leading the Akron Zips in the second game of a doubleheader against Illinois on February 14. Down 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Akron battled to force extra-innings when Max Bowman sent a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to give the Zips a 5-4 victory.
