Akron Honors Seniors; Three Zips Record Three Hits, Amundson Ties Single Season Home Run Record to Conclude Season

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron baseball team saw three players record three hits while Easton Amundson tied the program single season home run record with his 17th of the season in a 15-8 loss to Miami on Saturday.
The Zips honored Kyle McConachie, Jeremiah Newman, Kelton Phillips, Henry Hayman and Amundson durring the pregame Senior Day ceremony.
Brody Chrisman, Hayman and McConachie all recorded three hits for the blue and Gold. Chrisman finished the day with a home run and three RBI to lead the Zips. Amundson tied Jack Firestone's single-season record of 17 home runs in a season, hitting a two-run blast in the sixth inning.
Carter Beck (0-3) got the ball to start for Akron (21-34, 11-22) and took the loss. Nathan Currah was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing one hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the second inning. Akron got an RBI single from Hayman, scoring Prince DeBoskie from second base.
The Zips deficit expanded to 11-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Akron hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs aross. which tightened the RedHawks lead to 11-5.
Miami (OH) built their lead to 14-5 before the Akron offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 14-7 in the seventh.
The RedHawks expanded their lead to 15-7 before the Akron offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Brady Bowen, bringing the score to 15-8 in favor of Miami (OH). The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
