Akron Lacrosse Set to Open Home Campaign

AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron lacrosse team is set to kick off the home portion of its 2024 schedule this week as the Zips host St. Bonaventure and Ohio State.

Akron will battle the Bonnies in a 3 p.m. tilt at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field on Wednesday (Feb. 14) before welcoming the Buckeyes to the Stile Athletics Field House for a noon showdown on Sunday (Feb. 18).
SCOUTING AKRON:
Sophomore Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.), senior Jacqueline Glassey (Kildeer, Ill.) and freshman Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, Minn.) lead the Zips with a team-high three goals apiece. Freshman Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) directs the squad in assists (5) and points (6), while Glassey headlines the team in shots (7) and shots on goal (5). Senior Alexi Hardy (Beavercreek, Ohio) owns team-high marks in ground balls (3) and caused turnovers (3), while senior Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) has recorded a team-best seven draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) owns 17 saves, while sophomore GK Kylan Rhude (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) has added one stop on the campaign.

A year ago, sophomore Macy Vail (Joppatowne, Md.), junior Jaelyn Clinkscales (Rochester, N.Y.), redshirt senior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) and sophomore Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 17, 13, 10 and nine goals, respectively. Among returning players, Vail paced the squad in points (18), shots (46) and shots on goal (36). Rhude and Sanders turned in 78 and 75 saves, respectively, for Akron on the year, while combining to post 61 ground balls.

• Sikorski is rated first in assists per game (2.50) and second in points per match (3.00).
• Hardy is ranked second in caused turnovers (1.50) and seventh in draw controls (2.00).
• Sanders is rated third in saves per game (9.00), seventh in ground balls (2.00) and eighth in goals against average (19.50) and in save percentage (.316).
• Senior Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) is ranked third in assists per game (1.50) and eighth in points per game (2.00).
• Junior Bryanne Harner (Friendswood, Texas) is rated fourth caused turnovers (1.00).
• Glassey is ranked sixth in points per game (2.50) and eighth in goals per contest (1.50) and shots per match (3.50).
• Junior Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) is rated sixth in draw controls (3.00).
• Vail is ranked sixth in assists per game (1.00).

ZIPS NAME QUARTET TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2024:
The Akron senior quartet of Noelle Boyd, Jacqueline Glassey, Alexi Hardy and Anjali Silverheels (Hamburg, N.Y.) will serve as the Zips' captains for the 2024 campaign.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE:
Akron is squaring off against St. Bonaventure for the fifth time in program history. A season ago, the Bonnies were 6-12 on the campaign, including a 4-5 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Junior Fiona McGovern leads St. Bonaventure's returners in 2024 after registering 47 goals, 23 assists, 70 points, 92 shots, 80 shots on goal, 27 ground balls and 12 ground balls a year ago. Redshirt senior GK Ashley Herrick collected 154 saves during the 2023 campaign for the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure is led by second-year head coach LeighAnn Stauffer, who owns a 6-12 ledger as a head coach for the Bonnies and is 11-28 entering her fourth overall campaign as a head coach.

SCOUTING OHIO STATE:
Akron is squaring off against Ohio State for the first time in program history. The Buckeyes enter their showdown at Youngstown State on Friday (Feb. 16) at 2-0 on the campaign following a 17-6 triumph past Kent State on Sunday (Feb. 11). Senior Jamie Lasda directs Ohio State's offensive attack registering team-high marks in goals (9), points (9), shots (12) and shots on goal (12), while ranking third in draw controls (4). Senior goalkeeper Regan Alexander has recorded eight saves and owns a 3.57 goals against average and .571 save percentage on the campaign. Ohio State is led by first-year head coach Amanda Moore, who owns a 2-0 ledger as a head coach for the Buckeyes and is 37-59 in her seventh overall campaign as a head coach.
