AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron lacrosse team is set to open Mid-American Conference Championship play on Thursday (April 30) as the second-seeded Zips battle third-seeded Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m. in Moon Township, Pa.
FIVE ZIPS GARNER ALL-MAC ACCOLADES:
Akron garnered a program-record five All-Mid-American Conference selections when the league unveiled its 2026 award winners in a vote of the league coaches released on Wednesday (April 29).
Junior Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) capped a brilliant regular season campaign with her selection as the league's Attacker of the Year. Senior Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) culminated her stellar season being honored as the MAC Midfielder of the Year.
The duo headlined the Zips' award winners as the pair was selected as First Team All-MAC honorees. Pulling in Second Team All-MAC laurels were seniors Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.). Additionally, freshman Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) was named to the MAC All-Freshman team.
POSTSEASON HISTORY:
The Zips will be making their second straight postseason appearance when the squad battles Eastern Michigan on Thursday (May 1). Akron is 2-1 all-time in postseason play, including 2-0 in the MAC Tournament.
FIVE ZIPS HONORED ON SENIOR DAY:
Akron recognized five Zips on Senior Day prior to the squad's match with Youngstown State on April 18. The group of Katie Baumer, Sarah Baumer, Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.), Dani Dahl (Fairfax, Va.) and Kellen Fletcher donned the Blue and White one final time at home when Akron hosted the Penguins.
ZIPS NAME TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2026:
The Akron senior duo of Katie Baumer and Sarah Baumer will serve as the Zips' captains for the 2026 campaign.
SCOUTING AKRON:
Sienna Hinchcliffe leads the Zips in goals (70), points (97), shots (143), shots on goal (102), while ranking second in ground balls (26), third in draw controls (46) and fourth in caused turnovers (15). Katie Baumer is second on the team in goals (37). Kellen Fletcher paces the squad in assists (31), while junior Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) ranks fourth with 21. Heather Carey ranks third on the squad in goals netting 31. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Califano (Bellmore, N.Y.) has registered 85 saves, 24 ground balls and owns an 8.80 goals against average.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN:
Akron is meeting Eastern Michigan for the sixth time in program history. The Eagles are 10-6 on the campaign, including 5-2 in the Mid-American Conference, following an 16-4 triumph over Youngstown State on April 25. Senior Mackenzie Blackwell owns team-high totals in goals (44), points (62), shots (106) and shots on goal (73), while ranking second in assists (18) and draw controls (32). Junior goalkeeper Maddy Porter has collected 153 saves and 66 ground balls, respectively, en route to posting 10.21 goals against average. Eastern Michigan is led by second-year head coach Maddie Dugan, who owns an 18-15 ledger as a head coach for the Eagles, and is 44-74 in eight overall campaigns as a head coach.

Akron overcame a 5-1 first-quarter deficit to register a come-from-behind 10-9 Mid-American Conference victory past Eastern Michigan on March 28 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Health Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Sienna Hinchcliffe became Akron's all-time leading goal scorer when she connected on her second of a game-high four goals at the 5:50 mark of the third quarter. The tally represented her 137th career goal surpassing Noelle Boyd (2021-25) atop the program's leaderboard.
• Hinchcliffe's goal at the 7:09 mark of the fourth quarter broke an 8-8 tilt and put the Zips ahead to stay before Heather Carey netted the game-winning goal with 3:43 left in the game.
