Mobley Scores Career-High 30 Points in Akron's 80-52 Victory over Miami Hamilton

AKRON, Ohio - Senior Alexus Mobley (Indianapolis, Ind.) poured in a career-high 30 points to help lead the University of Akron women's basketball team to an 80-52 triumph past Miami Hamilton at James A. Rhodes Arena on Saturday (Dec. 28).
The Zips (6-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Mobley, who had a 30-point, six-rebound, five-assist, three-steal and two-block performance. Her five assists established a career-high mark. Redshirt Shelbee Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) tacked on career-best total in points (17), assists (5) and blocks (2), while narrowly missing her team-leading fourth double double of the season pulling down nine rebounds to go along with three steals. Sophomore Teniesha Clarke (Burlington, Ontario) helped out with 11 points.
Akron did a great job disrupting shots in the contest, coming away with 10 blocks. Freshman Ni'Rah Clark's (Toledo, Ohio) career- and Akron season-best four rejections led the way individually for the Zips.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 15-9 advantage, Akron went on a 6-0 run with 2:54 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 21-9, a score that held for the rest of the period. Akron relied on its three-point shooting in the stanza, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 21 points.
Akron extended its lead to 29-15 before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 6:25 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Mobley, to increase its margin to 36-15. The Harriers cut into that lead, but the Zips enjoyed a 43-26 advantage heading into halftime. Akron was strong from deep in the period, knocking down a trio of three-point shots to account for nine of its 22 points.
Akron stretched its halftime lead going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Brown, to expand its lead further to 56-29 with 4:53 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Zips still entered the final quarter with a 60-39 edge. Akron played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.
Akron kept its margin intact before going on a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 73-43 with 6:11 to go in the contest. Akron took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 18 of its 20 points in the paint.
