Toledo, Ohio – The Akron baseball team fell 10-9 to Toledo in the series finale as the Rockets used the bottom of the ninth inning for a come-from-behid walk-off win to claim a 2-1 season series lead on Sunday at Scott Park Baseball Complex.

Akron (9-13,4-5 MAC) registered 10 hits for nine runs as junior OF Jack Poist (Hoover, Ala.) and Junior 3B Max Bowman (Gahanna, Ohio) led the squad with 3-of-5 performances from the plate. Poist recorded a double and a triple for two RBI and a run scored, while Bowman drove in three runs and scored a run with a pair of base hits and a homerun. Senior IF Nick Arrivo (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and junior OF Jack Firestone (Zionsville, Ind.) added late homeruns, while sophomore OF Ian Pennington (Springboro, Ohio) and freshman Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa.) posted base hits for the Zips.

The Zips scored the first run in the second inning when the Rockets relinquished back-to-back walks with runners on first and second. Arrivo scored the Zips first run and Horvath was credited with the RBI base on balls.

Akron plated to more runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 advantage as Poist sent a triple to left field, plating Arrivo and Pennington. However, Toledo (11-11,5-4 MAC) answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-3 advantage.

Akron tied the game, 5-5, in the seventh inning as Bowman homered in the sixth and issued an RBI single to right to knot the game. Again, The Rockets responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame for a 7-5 lead.

In the eighth inning, Akron established a 9-7 advantage by plating four runs. The rally started with Firestone's 10^th homerun of the season followed by a walk and a two-run homerun from Arrivo. Poist added a double to centerfield and Bowman collected his third RBI with a single to right field.

The Zips held the Rockets scoreless in the eighth inning, but in the final stanza, Toledo scored three runs for the win.

Akron has a big week ahead, playing four games with four contests at Skeeles Field. The Zips open the week at Dayton on Tuesday, March 28 before hosting Shawnee State on Wednesday, March 29^th with both games scheduled for 3 p.m. starts.
