NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Akron softball team garnered a pair of victories on the opening day of the Lady Bison Classic hosted by Lipscomb on Friday, March 10 as the Zips opened the day triumphing over Evansville, 3-1, before earning a 5-2 decision past Lipscomb.

"We got two really well-pitched games today" Akron head coach Craig Nicholson commented. "I thought our outfield defense was outstanding and we got some timely hits. Our offensive execution is improving and today it put us in good positions to score runs. A good day for Zips Softball."

Akron responded to a single tally from Evansville in the top of the first with a pair of tallies to assume a lead it didn't relinquish in the contest. Redshirt junior Molly McChesney (Verona, Wis.) and sophomore Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) each recorded RBI singles in the frame.

A one-out RBI single from junior Madison Dudek (Uniontown, Ohio) in the bottom of the sixth inning accounted for the 3-1 final score.

Redshirt senior Alexa DiFeo (Akron, Ohio) tossed a complete-game victory for the Zips striking out 11 batters.

Offensively, freshman Brooke Sivek (Boerne, Texas) went 4-for-4 with a run scored, while redshirt junior Laurel DeVoe (North Canton, Ohio) added a 2-of-3 effort with an RBI.

In game two, freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) pitched a complete game for the Zips striking out three batters.

Trailing 2-1 through three innings, freshman Abigail Scheller (North Hills, Pa.) connected on a two-out RBI single to knot the game at two.

A two-out RBI double from Campbell in the top of the fifth inning gave Akron its first lead of the day, 4-2. Bryant followed with an RBI single to drive in Campbell with the Zips' fifth run of the tilt.

Freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) paced Akron's offensive attack with a 3-for-4 effort, while Campbell went 2-of-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
