OLEAN, N.Y. – A career-high three-goal effort from University of Akron lacrosse freshman Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) was not enough to lift the Zips to victory as St. Bonaventure edged Akron, 12-10, on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Senior Kaija Kunttu (Zionsville, Ind.) opened the scoring for the Zips with a tally at the 10:38 mark of the opening quarter.
• Freshman Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.) netted a player-down goal for Akron with 58 seconds left in the first quarter for her first career goal.
• Senior Alexis Kiefer (West Chicago, Ill.) capped the scoring in the first half with her 10th goal of the season at the 2:23 mark of the second period.
• The Zips netted a quartet of tallies in the third quarter as sophomore Jaelyn Clinkscales (Rochester, N.Y.), Baumer, junior Antonia Trickett (Cleveland, Ohio) and junior Noelle Boyd (Murrysville, Pa.) found the back of the net at the 6:02, 5:12, 0:47 and 0:10 marks, respectively.
• Trailing 10-7 after three periods of play, Akron garnered the second and third goals of the afternoon from Baumer at the 7:21 and 2:03 marks, before Clinkscales capped the scoring netting a player-down tally with 1:27 left in the game.
• Sophomore GK Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) and freshman GK Kylan Rhude (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) tallied two and eight saves, respectively.
