MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships On the Line for Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track and field team will join the rest of their MAC members this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, to compete at the league's Indoor Championships, as Bowling Green hosts the two-day event at the Perry Fieldhouse.

In all, the championship meet will feature men's teams from Akron, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan and Kent State, while all 12 league members will be chasing the title on the women's side.

The Zips' men squad has won five of the last eight indoor team titles and eight of the last 14 MAC championships overall.
On the women's side, the Zips are seeking their second consecutive and eighth overall indoor championship.
In addition to a pair of MAC Championships on the line, the Zips will be competing against Kent State in the final standings for two points in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge. The Golden Flashes lead the series 4.5-1.0 in the current standings.
MAC MEET SCHEDULE: The MAC Championships will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Perry Fieldhouse with the start of the men's heptathlon. That will be followed by the commencement of running events with the women's mile preliminary round at 1:45 p.m. and run through the women's distance medley relay at 6:15 p.m. The final day of the championship kicks off with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon at 10 a.m. The first running event is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the men's mile, before the meet wraps up with the women's 4x400 relay at 4:50 p.m. For a complete schedule of events, log on to MAC-Sports.com. Scoring in the meet will be on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for individual events and relays for the women and 10-8-6-4-2-1 for the men.
ZIPS RETURN NINE ALL-MAC PERFORMERS: The Zips return nine all-conference indoor performers from a season ago that will look to defend their all-league accolades.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams have garnered recognition for their efforts during the 2023 indoor season as the Zips are rated in the Event Squad rankings released on Feb. 20, 2023, as part of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
Akron is ranked 14th nationally in the men's pole vault as well as rating among the top 25 in two different events.
The Zips also are rated 15th in the men's weight throw.
ZIPS RANK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2023 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron have a pair of student-athletes ranked in the top-50 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the 2023 indoor campaign, including, Hunter Garretson, who is ninth in the nation in the men's pole vault (18-2.50/5.55m).
Also rated among the top-50 is redshirt senior Milton Wilson (Streetsboro, Ohio), who is 36th in the men's weight throw (68-11.75/21.02m).
CRACKING THE ALL-TIME TOP-FIVE PERFORMANCES: The Zips have added one school record as part of seven overall top-five performances in program history to the record book during the 2023 indoor campaign.
A WEEK AGO: The University of Akron track and field team registered four victories as part of 19 overall top-three finishes to highlight the Zips' performances at the Fourth Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, Feb. 17 at the Stile Athletics Field House.
